OPPO A5 – Now Available in Kenya at Zentech Electronics
Key Highlights
6.67-inch HD+ LCD, 90Hz, up to 1,000 nits in bright sun
Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1 — this Kenya A5 is 4G, not 5G
50MP main camera · 2MP monochrome helper · 5MP selfie
6,000mAh typical battery · 45W charger in the box
6GB + 128GB or 8GB + 256GB, memory card slot
IP65 splash and dust rating · 3.5mm jack · two nano SIMs
The OPPO A5 is the tough everyday 4G A-series: a bright 6.67-inch screen, a 6,000mAh battery, and 45W charging in the box. It suits someone who wants ColorOS, a headphone jack, and a phone that can take rain and knocks without paying Reno money.
Buy it at Zentech Electronics Kenya for cash or Lipa Pole Pole. Pickup is at The Bazaar Plaza, or we deliver across Kenya.
The screen is a 6.67-inch LCD at 720 × 1604, which works out to about 264 pixels per inch. That is HD+, not Full HD, so small text is a little softer than on a pricier phone, but WhatsApp, Facebook, and YouTube look clean at normal reading distance. The refresh rate goes up to 90Hz, which makes scrolling feel lighter than an older 60Hz phone. OPPO Kenya lists this 4G A5 at 90Hz, not 120Hz; if a foreign A5 5G review quotes 120Hz, that is a different radio version.
OPPO rates the panel at about 850 nits in normal use and 1,000 nits in high-brightness mode, so maps and M-Pesa stay readable when you are standing outside at midday. The glass is flat, which makes a standard screen protector easy to fit. Blacks are grey compared with an AMOLED Reno, and that is the main screen trade-off at this price.
Inside the Kenyan A5 is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1 with an Adreno 610 graphics unit. It is a 4G chip. It handles calls, WhatsApp, M-Pesa, Facebook, YouTube, and light games without drama. Heavy 3D titles have to run on low or medium settings, and opening a stack of apps takes a moment longer than on a newer Snapdragon 6 or Helio G100 phone.
We stock 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB. Both use LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.1 storage, which is quicker than the eMMC you still find on cheaper A-series phones. Take 8GB + 256GB if this is the family phone and the camera roll plus WhatsApp video will grow. OPPO Kenya lists a memory card slot, so you can add space without deleting photos. USB OTG is supported if you plug in a flash drive.
Camera System: 50MP Main, 2MP Monochrome Helper & 5MP Selfie
All your rear photos come from the 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 lens and autofocus. In daylight it takes sharp, bright pictures for WhatsApp status and Facebook, and there is a high-resolution mode when you want extra detail. The second lens is a 2MP monochrome helper; it does not take pictures on its own, so think of this as a one-camera phone with a helper. There is no ultra-wide lens and no optical stabilisation.
OPPO's Kenya spec sheet is honest about the 4G limits: slow motion and dual-view video are listed as not supported on 4G models. Rear video is 1080p at 30fps. Night mode brightens streets and shops, but you need a steady hand and the results are softer than on a Reno. On the front is a 5MP selfie camera with a screen fill light, which is fine for video calls and quick selfies.
Battery & Charging: 6,000mAh with 45W in the Box
The Kenyan A5 has a 6,000mAh typical battery (5,860mAh rated). That is a large cell for a slim A-series body, and a normal day of calls, WhatsApp, maps, and YouTube ends with charge left over. OPPO markets the cell as holding health for years of daily charging; treat that as a durability claim, not a measured shop test.
The 45W SUPERVOOC charger, USB-C cable, and a case come in the Kenya box. Charging is much faster than a 15W budget phone. Foreign A5 5G reviews quote times around half an hour to 50 percent, but those were not measured on this 4G Kenya unit, so we do not put a minute figure on the page. Use the brick in the box, not a random slow cube, if you want the full 45W.
Kenyan Network Connectivity, Audio & Software
It takes two nano SIM cards and works on 4G with Safaricom, Airtel, and Telkom. It is not a 5G phone and OPPO Kenya does not list eSIM, so plan on physical SIMs. The LTE bands on the Kenya sheet include 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, and 28 plus TDD 38, 40, and 41, which covers the networks we actually use. Wi-Fi is dual-band 802.11ac, Bluetooth is 5.0, and there is a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The fingerprint reader sits in the power button on the side. It runs ColorOS 15. OPPO Kenya's spec sheet does not list NFC for this A5, so do not buy it expecting tap-to-pay. IP65 means rain, splashes, and dust are fine in normal use; it should not go under water, and liquid damage is not covered by the warranty. OPPO also quotes military-grade drop testing and an SGS gold shock rating.
Buyer Guidance: What It Is Not & Alternatives
Know what it is not. It is 4G only, even though some shops mix it up with the A5 5G. The screen is HD+ LCD, not AMOLED. The 2MP lens is a helper, the selfie camera is 5MP, and there is no optical stabilisation. It is IP65, not a dive phone. It is the A5, not the A5 Pro.
The OPPO A5 price in Kenya sits with the other A-series phones we stock, and you are paying for the 6,000mAh cell, 45W in the box, and the tougher IP65 body. If you want a cheaper first OPPO with the same 45W idea and a simpler 8MP camera, look at the A3x. If you want a Reno camera, a 32MP selfie, and a Full HD AMOLED, step up to the Reno 13F.
We sell genuine units from The Bazaar Plaza, Moi Avenue, 10th floor, Wing A, Suite 1038, Nairobi. WhatsApp +254 739 238 917. Same-day collection in Nairobi CBD, or we send it.

Questions about the OPPO A5
Is the OPPO A5 waterproof?
No. It is rated IP65, so it handles rain, splashes, and dust in normal use, but it should not go under water. OPPO's warranty does not cover liquid damage.
Does the OPPO A5 come with a charger?
Yes. The Kenya box has the 45W SUPERVOOC charger, a USB-C cable, a SIM tool, the guides, and a protective case.
Is the OPPO A5 in Kenya 4G or 5G?
The A5 we stock is the Kenya 4G model, CPH2727, with the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1. It is not the A5 5G. It works on Safaricom, Airtel, and Telkom 4G.
What is the battery size of the OPPO A5 in Kenya?
OPPO Kenya lists a 6,000mAh typical battery (5,860mAh rated) and 45W charging. That is the number for this market, not a smaller older A5.
Does the OPPO A5 have a memory card slot or a headphone jack?
Yes to both. OPPO Kenya lists a phone storage card slot, and there is a 3.5mm headphone jack next to USB-C.
Is the OPPO A5 good for gaming?
It is fine for light and medium games on lower settings. The Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1 is an everyday chip, not a gaming chip, so Call of Duty and similar titles should stay on low or medium.
OPPO A5 or OPPO A3x: which should I buy?
Take the A5 if you want the 50MP camera, the 6,000mAh battery, UFS storage, and IP65. Take the A3x if you want to spend less and are happy with an 8MP camera and 4GB of RAM.
Should I get the 6GB or 8GB OPPO A5?
Get 8GB + 256GB if you keep many apps open and store a lot of WhatsApp video. The 6GB + 128GB version is enough for calls, WhatsApp, and a few social apps, and you can still add a memory card.
Does the OPPO A5 have NFC or eSIM?
OPPO Kenya does not list NFC or eSIM on this A5. Plan on two physical nano SIM cards and no tap-to-pay.
Is the OPPO A5 the same as the A5 Pro?
No. This is the A5. The A5 Pro is a different phone with a different screen and camera. Ask for the A5 if that is the model you came in for.
Can I pay for the OPPO A5 in instalments?
Yes. Pick one of the three plans in the tables above: a low deposit and daily payments for 12 months, a 20% deposit and daily payments for 6, 9, or 12 months, or 50% to 90% upfront and monthly payments for 1 to 6 months.
What do I need to buy the A5 on a payment plan?
Bring your original Kenyan ID and the deposit. The low-deposit daily plan also needs an active Safaricom line. We do the sign-up with you in the shop or over WhatsApp.
What happens if I miss a payment on the A5?
The phone is locked until you catch up. As soon as you pay what is due, it unlocks and you carry on with your plan.
Can I clear the A5 balance early?
Yes. You can pay off the balance any time, and paying early lowers the total you pay.
Can I get the A5 the same day?
Yes. Once the deposit is paid and the sign-up is done, you can collect it the same day at The Bazaar Plaza in Nairobi CBD, or we deliver it to you anywhere in Kenya.
