Display & Outdoor Visibility: 6.78-inch 120Hz HD+ LCD

The screen is a 6.78-inch IPS LCD at 720 x 1600, about 259 pixels per inch. WhatsApp, TikTok, and YouTube look clean at normal distance, but small text is softer than on the Spark 40 Pro's 1.5K AMOLED. The punch-hole sits at the top, and the bezels are typical for this class.

The refresh rate goes up to 120Hz, so scrolling feels smoother than an older 60Hz phone. It is still LCD: blacks look grey in a dark room, and hard Nairobi sun will wash the panel more than an AMOLED. Tecno does not publish a nit rating on the Kenya page, so do not expect Spark 40 Pro outdoor brightness. A screen protector from day one is wise; there is no Gorilla Glass number on the Kenya spec sheet.

Processor & Storage: Helio G81, 4GB RAM, 128GB or 256GB

The chip is the MediaTek Helio G81, with two Cortex-A75 cores at 2.0GHz, six Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8GHz, and a Mali-G57 MC2 graphics unit. Calls, WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, and light games are the job. Many Chrome tabs reload. Heavy 3D games need low settings. Storage is UFS 2.2, which feels snappier than the eMMC on a Pop.

We stock 4GB + 128GB and 4GB + 256GB. The 256GB row is often marketed as 4+8GB because Tecno adds extended RAM from storage; the physical RAM is still 4GB, so apps close sooner than on the 8GB Spark 40 Pro. Take 256GB if this phone is the family camera. The tray has a dedicated microSD slot, so you can keep two SIMs and a card at the same time.

Camera System: 50MP Main, Helper Rings and 8MP Selfie

The rear camera is a 50MP sensor with an f/1.9 lens and phase-detect focus. Daylight shop photos and WhatsApp status look clean. The extra rings on the island are a flash and helpers, not two more 50MP cameras and not an ultra-wide. There is no optical stabilisation. Tecno's FlashSnap mode uses a fast shutter and an AI pick when the light is good.

Video on reviews of this 4G model goes up to 1440p. The 8MP front camera has a flash for video calls and selfies; it is weaker than the 13MP selfie on the Spark 40 Pro. Night shots go soft unless you hold still. This is a daylight 50MP Spark, not a Camon Sony phone.

Battery & Charging: 6,700mAh with 18W in the Box

The Kenyan Spark 50 has a 6,700mAh battery. Tecno's Kenya page quotes over 28 hours of video on that cell and more than 80% capacity after five years. Some global spec sheets say 7,000mAh; use the 6,700mAh figure for the phone we sell here. A reviewer of the 4G model said a heavy day still had about 12% left the next morning, and lighter use stretches toward two days.

The 18W charger and a case come in the box. The trade-off for the huge battery is speed: a fill from empty takes well over two hours, so charge it overnight or at the shop. That is slower than the Spark 40 Pro's 45W brick. If you want a battery that lasts two days more than a battery that fills in under an hour, this is the Spark.

Kenyan Network Connectivity, Audio & Software

It takes two nano SIM cards and works on 4G with Safaricom, Airtel, and Telkom. It is not the Spark 50 5G sold in other countries with a Dimensity chip and a 6,500mAh cell. The Kenya page does not list eSIM. You get Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, FM radio, USB-C, a side fingerprint reader, and an infrared remote. Global spec sheets list NFC; the Kenya product page does not, so ask us to check the unit in the shop if tap-to-pay matters.

Dual speakers with DTS and a 3.5mm jack are still here, which many newer phones have dropped. It ships with Android 16 and HiOS 16. Tecno also puts FreeLink 2.0 on this model: two Tecno phones can talk over a short range when there is no network. IP64 covers dust and splashes, and Tecno quotes drop resistance up to 1.8 metres.

Buyer Guidance: What It Is Not & Alternatives

Know what it is not. It is 4G only, the screen is HD+ LCD rather than AMOLED, charging is 18W on a very large battery, and 4GB of RAM reloads apps. Extra camera rings are helpers. It is splash-proof, not waterproof. Do not confuse it with the Spark 50 5G or the Spark 50 Pro.
