Detailed Description of the Tecno Spark 40 Pro

Display & Outdoor Visibility: 6.78-inch 1.5K 144Hz AMOLED

Start with the screen, because it is why people pick the Pro over a plain Spark. It is a 6.78-inch AMOLED panel at 1224 x 2720, which Tecno calls 1.5K, running at up to 144Hz. WhatsApp, TikTok, and camera preview look sharp and fluid, and blacks stay black in a dim room. Tecno notes that the chip's native output is 1080p and a scaler lifts it to 1.5K, so some apps may still report Full HD.

Tecno rates the panel at about 1,600 nits in high-brightness mode and up to 4,500 nits peak, so maps and chats stay readable at a matatu stage at midday. The glass is Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. The phone is only 6.69mm thick. Compared with the Spark 40's HD+ LCD, this is a different class of screen.

Processor & Storage: Helio G100 Ultimate, 8GB + 128GB

The chip is the MediaTek Helio G100 Ultimate on a 6nm process, with two Cortex-A76 cores at 2.2GHz, six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz, and a Mali-G57 MC2 graphics unit. Everyday apps, camera processing, and light games such as Call of Duty on mid settings stay comfortable. It is still a 4G chip, not a Dimensity 5G set, and very heavy games on top settings can drop frames.

We stock 8GB of physical RAM with 128GB of storage. Tecno also lists an 8GB extended-RAM overlay, which borrows storage; the real RAM is 8GB, which is the useful number when you keep WhatsApp, Chrome, and the camera open. 128GB fills if you keep a lot of 50MP photos, so ask us about a microSD card. There is a card slot on this Pro, unlike the Spark 40 Pro+ which drops it.

Camera System: 50MP Main, Helper Lens and 13MP Selfie

The rear camera is a 50MP main sensor with an f/1.6 lens, a 1/2.8-inch sensor, and phase-detect focus. Daylight shop photos and portraits look clean. The extra lens on the back is an auxiliary helper, not a second 50MP camera and not an ultra-wide. There is no optical stabilisation on this Pro; that is a Spark 40 Pro+ talking point with electronic stabilisation.

Video on the rear goes up to 1440p at 30fps or 1080p at 30fps. The 13MP front camera has dual flash and records 1080p, which is a step up from the 8MP selfie on the Spark 50. Night shots need a steady hand. This is a good daylight Spark camera, not a Camon Sony setup.

Battery & Charging: 5,200mAh with 45W Super Charging

The Kenyan Spark 40 Pro has a 5,200mAh battery. Tecno says it is built for more than 2,000 charge cycles and should keep over 80% of its capacity after five years. A work day of 4G, WhatsApp, and some video leaves charge in the evening. It is smaller than the Spark 50's 6,700mAh cell, but it fills much faster.

The 45W charger comes in the box. GSMArena lists 10W reverse wired charging as well, so you can top up earbuds from the phone. Independent timed fills for this exact 5,200mAh Pro are scarce, so treat 45W as the official rate rather than a promised minute count. The Spark 40 Pro+ adds wireless charging; this Pro does not.

Kenyan Network Connectivity, Audio & Software

It takes two nano SIM cards and works on 4G with Safaricom, Airtel, and Telkom. It is not a 5G phone and the Kenya page does not list eSIM. Tecno's Kenya product page lists multifunctional NFC, an infrared remote, FM radio, USB-C with OTG, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. The fingerprint reader sits under the screen.

Dual speakers with Dolby Atmos are louder and cleaner than a single-speaker Pop, and there is still a 3.5mm headphone jack. It ships with Android 15 and HiOS 15.1. Tecno advertises a five-year fluency guarantee on this series. A long, numbered Android-upgrade promise is not spelled out the way it is on the Camon 50 Pro, so check with us if software years are the reason you are buying.

Buyer Guidance: What It Is Not & Alternatives

Know what it is not. It is rated IP64 with 1.5-metre drop resistance, so rain and splashes are fine, but it should not go under water. The second rear lens is a helper, not an ultra-wide. There is no wireless charging, no 5G, and we stock 128GB only.

The Tecno Spark 40 Pro price in Kenya sits above the Spark 50 because you are paying for the AMOLED, 8GB of RAM, and 45W charging. If you want a much bigger battery and 256GB, look at the Spark 50. If you want a Sony main camera, a real 3x telephoto, and IP68, step up to the Camon 50 Pro.

We sell genuine units from The Bazaar Plaza, Moi Avenue, 10th floor, Wing A, Suite 1038, Nairobi. WhatsApp +254 739 238 917. Same-day collection in Nairobi CBD, or we send it.
