The Redmi 17 is the big-battery 4G Redmi: a tall 6.9-inch 120Hz screen and a 7,500mAh cell with 45W charging. It suits someone who wants the phone to last two lighter days and does not need 5G.
Zentech Electronics Kenya sells this one for cash or Lipa Pole Pole. Collect it on Moi Avenue, or we send it to you.
The screen is a 6.9-inch IPS LCD at 1600 × 720, which is HD+, about 254 pixels per inch. Maps and YouTube look fine at arm's length, but small text is softer than on a Full HD phone. The refresh rate goes up to 120Hz, so scrolling feels lighter than a 60Hz set. Xiaomi rates high-brightness mode at about 825 nits, which helps outdoors.
Gorilla Glass 7i sits on top. The phone is tall and about 232 grams, so it is not a small-pocket phone. It is still an LCD, not AMOLED, and the resolution is a step down from some older Redmi number-series phones that used Full HD. If you sit close and read a lot of documents, you will notice the softness.
Inside is the MediaTek Helio G91 Ultra, a 12nm 4G chip with two Cortex-A75 cores at 2.0GHz, six Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8GHz, and a Mali-G52 MC2 graphics unit. It handles calls, WhatsApp, M-Pesa, Facebook, and YouTube. Many Chrome tabs will reload because we stock 4GB of RAM. Heavy 3D games belong on a faster chip.
We stock 4GB+128GB and 4GB+256GB. Take 256GB if you keep videos on the phone. Storage is eMMC 5.1, slower than the UFS chips on the 5G Redmi 17 and on the A7 Pro. The card slot is hybrid: a microSD card takes the place of the second nano SIM. Kenya shops list this as the 4G Redmi 17, not the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 5G twin.
Camera System: 50MP Main, Helper Lens & 8MP Selfie
The rear setup is a 50MP main camera at f/1.8 with PDAF, plus an auxiliary helper that does not take pictures on its own. In daylight it takes sharp shop and family photos for WhatsApp. There is no ultra-wide lens and no optical stabilisation. Night shots need a steady hand and stay softer than on a mid-range phone.
Video is 1080p at 30fps on the rear and the front. The 8MP selfie camera is fine for video calls. An RGB light on the back can pulse for notifications. This is a battery phone first; the camera is a daylight snapshot tool, not a night studio.
Battery & Charging: 7,500mAh with 45W Charging
The 7,500mAh silicon-carbon cell is the reason to buy this phone. Xiaomi quotes up to two days of light use, about 28 hours of video, or 109 hours of music on the sister 5G model that shares this battery. A normal Nairobi day of calls, WhatsApp, maps, and hotspot should end with a lot of charge left.
45W wired charging is rated at about 51 percent in 35 minutes and full in about 96 minutes with the right adapter. It can reverse-charge another device at up to 22.5W. Xiaomi's European box sometimes ships without a charger; we will confirm what is in the Kenyan box when you collect. Plan on a 45W USB-C brick if you want those times.
Kenyan Network Connectivity, Audio & Software
It takes two nano SIM cards, or one SIM and a microSD card, and works on 4G with Safaricom, Airtel, and Telkom. It is not the Redmi 17 5G. There is no eSIM on the spec sheet. Wi-Fi is dual-band, Bluetooth is 5.4, and there is FM radio. NFC is listed as market-dependent, so check the unit in the shop if you need tap-to-pay.
You get stereo speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The fingerprint reader sits in the power button. It runs Android 16 with HyperOS 3. IP64 covers dust and splashes, not a dunk in water, and Xiaomi's warranty does not cover liquid damage.
Buyer Guidance: What It Is Not & Alternatives
Know what it is not. It is 4G only, the screen is HD+, RAM is 4GB, storage is eMMC, and the card slot steals the second SIM. It is not a Redmi Note 17, which is a different phone with an AMOLED screen. It is tall and heavy in a small pocket.
The Redmi 17 price in Kenya is the battery pick on this list. If you want more RAM and 33W charging in a slimmer body, look at the Redmi 15C. If you want to spend less and still get a 120Hz Redmi, look at the A7 Pro.

Questions about the Redmi 17
Does the Redmi 17 support 5G on Safaricom?
No. The Redmi 17 we stock is the 4G Helio G91 Ultra model. It works on Safaricom, Airtel, and Telkom 4G. The Redmi 17 5G with a Snapdragon chip is a different phone.
What is the battery size of the Redmi 17?
It has a 7,500mAh typical battery and supports 45W wired charging plus 22.5W reverse charging. Xiaomi quotes about 96 minutes from empty to full with the right 45W adapter.
Does the Redmi 17 come with a charger?
Xiaomi's box in some regions ships without a charger. We will confirm what is in the Kenyan box when you collect. The phone charges at up to 45W if you use a matching USB-C brick.
Is the Redmi 17 waterproof?
It is rated IP64, so dust and splashes are fine. It should not go under water, and Xiaomi's warranty does not cover liquid damage.
Can I use two SIM cards and a memory card in the Redmi 17?
The slot is hybrid. You can use two nano SIMs, or one SIM and a microSD card, not all three at once.
Does the Redmi 17 have a headphone jack?
Yes. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack, plus stereo speakers and FM radio.
Is the Redmi 17 good for gaming?
It is fine for casual games. The Helio G91 Ultra and 4GB of RAM are not meant for heavy 3D titles on high settings.
Redmi 17 or Redmi 15C: which one should I buy?
Take the 17 if you want the 7,500mAh battery and 45W charging. Take the 15C if you want 6GB or 8GB of RAM, a slimmer body, and a dedicated card slot.
Is the Redmi 17 the same as a Redmi Note 17?
No. The Note 17 is a different phone with an AMOLED screen. This page is the Redmi 17 number-series 4G.
Does the Redmi 17 have a Kenya warranty?
Yes. Buy it from us as a genuine unit and we handle the local warranty. Bring the box and receipt if you ever need a service.
Can I pay for the Redmi 17 in instalments?
Yes. Pick one of the two plans in the tables above: a low deposit and daily payments for 12 months, or 50% to 90% upfront and monthly payments for 1 to 6 months.
What do I need to buy the Redmi 17 on a payment plan?
Bring your original Kenyan ID and the deposit. The low-deposit daily plan also needs an active Safaricom line. We do the sign-up with you in the shop or over WhatsApp.
What happens if I miss a payment on the Redmi 17?
The phone is locked until you catch up. As soon as you pay what is due, it unlocks and you carry on with your plan.
Can I clear the Redmi 17 balance early?
Yes. You can pay off the balance any time, and paying early lowers the total you pay.
Can I get the Redmi 17 the same day?
Yes. Once the deposit is paid and the sign-up is done, you can collect it the same day at The Bazaar Plaza in Nairobi CBD, or we deliver it to you anywhere in Kenya.
