Detailed Description of the Tecno Spark 40

Display & Outdoor Visibility: 6.67-inch 120Hz HD+ IPS LCD

The screen is a 6.67-inch IPS LCD at 720 x 1600, about 263 pixels per inch, with a punch-hole camera. That is HD+, so small text is softer than on the 1.5K AMOLED Spark 40 Pro, but WhatsApp, TikTok, and YouTube scroll more smoothly than on a 60Hz first phone. Tecno's Kenya spec page lists this 120Hz hole screen for the Spark 40.

It is LCD, not AMOLED, so blacks look grey in a dark room. Maps stay usable outdoors in normal daylight, but this is not the Pro's high-nit AMOLED. The phone is 7.67mm thick and about 188 grams on Tecno's published sheet, so it sits light in a pocket. A cheap flat protector fits without fighting a curve.

Processor & Storage: Helio G81, 4GB + 128GB

The Kenyan Spark 40 uses the MediaTek Helio G81 on a 12nm process, with two Cortex-A75 cores at 2.0GHz, six Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8GHz, and a Mali-G52 MC2 graphics unit. Dual-SIM 4G, Chrome, Zoom, and light games are fine. Heavy 3D titles need lower settings. Some other countries list a Helio G91 NFC version; the official Kenya page names the G81.

We stock 4GB of physical RAM with 128GB of storage. Tecno also writes this as 128GB+8GB with 4GB extended; the real RAM is 4GB, which is the useful number when you keep WhatsApp, Chrome, and the camera open. 128GB fills if you keep a lot of 50MP photos, so ask us about a microSD card. Do not ask us for an 8GB+256GB Spark 40; that variant is not what we sell.

Camera System: 50MP Main, Helper Lens and 8MP Selfie

The rear camera is a 50MP main sensor with phase-detect focus and a dual-LED flash. Daylight shop photos and family pictures look clean enough for WhatsApp. The extra opening on the island is a helper lens; it is not a second 50MP camera and not an ultra-wide. There is no optical stabilisation.

Video on the rear goes up to 1440p at 30fps or 1080p at 30fps. The 8MP front camera has its own dual flash and records 1080p, which is fine for WhatsApp video in good light. Night shots need a steady hand. This is a good daylight Spark camera, not a Camon Sony setup and not the 13MP selfie on the Spark 40 Pro.

Battery & Charging: 5,200mAh with 45W Super Charging

The Kenyan Spark 40 has a 5,200mAh battery. Tecno's product pages say the cell is built for more than 2,000 charge cycles and should keep over 80 percent of its capacity after five years. A work day of 4G, WhatsApp, and some video leaves charge in the evening. It is smaller than the Spark 50's 6,700mAh cell, but it fills much faster.

Official Tecno copy lists 45W Super Charging and about 55 minutes from empty to full. English reviews of this model also found the 45W brick in the box. Use that charger, not a slow cube, if you want the quoted fill. The Spark 40 Pro+ adds wireless charging; this plain Spark does not.

Kenyan Network Connectivity, Audio & Software

It takes two nano SIM cards and works on 4G with Safaricom, Airtel, and Telkom. It is not a 5G phone and the Kenya page does not list eSIM. Tecno Kenya lists GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FM radio, USB-C with OTG, a side fingerprint reader, and an infrared remote. The Kenya spec does not list NFC, so do not buy this if you need tap-to-pay without asking us to check the unit.

Dual speakers with DTS are louder than a single-speaker first phone, and published sheets still list a 3.5mm headphone jack. It ships with Android 15 and HiOS 15. Tecno advertises a four-year fluency guarantee on this Spark. A long, numbered Android-upgrade promise is not spelled out the way it is on some Camon phones, so check with us if software years are the reason you are buying.

Buyer Guidance: What It Is Not & Alternatives

Know what it is not. It is not the Spark 40 Pro or the Pro+: those have AMOLED screens and more RAM. This phone is HD+ LCD, 4GB+128GB only, 4G only, and IP64, so rain and dust are fine but it should not go under water. Night photos have no optical stabilisation.

The Tecno Spark 40 price in Kenya puts it under the Pro and next to other 4GB+128GB Androids. If you want to spend less on calls and WhatsApp, look at the Pop 10. If you want a 1.5K 144Hz AMOLED and 8GB of RAM, step up to the Spark 40 Pro.
